Houston Police Chief Provides Update on Takeoff’s Murder Investigation

While the hip-hop community and fans worldwide continue mourning the loss of Migos star, Takeoff, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner says he is confident someone will be held accountable in the case.
“I feel good where we’re progressing,” Finner told KPRC 2.

The 28-year-old Grammy-nominated rapper was gunned down on November 1st outside a private event at 810 Billiards & Bowling. An argument involving his uncle and groupmate, Quavo, ended in gunfire after at least two people fired shots. Quavo was seen in cell phone footage walking away from the altercation with Takeoff close by when the shots rang out. Takeoff was fatally shot in the head and torso, succumbing to his injuries at the scene. Two others were shot but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Web sleuths have proposed several theories regarding who fired the fatal shot. Shortly after the murder, media personality Akademiks produced a lengthy webcast in which he pieced together video evidence and claimed to know who the gunman was. Still, police have not announced any suspects. The Chief is careful not to “send family members on a roller coaster ride” by naming a suspect without concrete evidence. Nevertheless, he believes that the case will have a resolution and is pleading with the public to be patient.

Takeoff was laid to rest on Friday, November 11th, in a ceremony at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA. Over 20,000 friends, family, and fans showed up to pay their respects to the beloved rapper.
