LaKevia’s mother, Sherina Jackson, spoke to reporter Tori Cooper about her daughter’s death. She explained that LaKevia was at Metro Fun on Thursday evening to celebrate her best friend’s birthday. At some point during the celebration, a fight broke out inside the alley over a bowling ball. Both LaKevia’s mother Sherina and Atlanta police have confirmed a bowling ball was at the center of the dispute.
Following the indoor altercation, the unidentified gunman waited 20 minutes in the parking lot. When LeKevia exited the alley, the man allegedly shot and killed her.
“I didn’t know that was going to be the last time I talked to my baby,” Sherina told Tori. “I could hear her over the phone crying and screaming then her best friend said she’s not breathing!”
Sherina reportedly described her daughter as “positive and so sweet.” But also expressed disbelief that she “lost [her] baby all over a bowling ball.”

Atlanta authorities spoke to reporters about the incident, echoing Sherina’s sentiments about LaKevia’s loss of life.
“This is truly an atrocity. A young lady has lost her life over a bowling ball. We talk about conflict-resolution time and time again and this is an escalated dispute so we will work this case through the night and we will find the person responsible,” APD Homicide Commander Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said. “We know who are so go ahead and turn yourself in.”
Police are reportedly speaking to witnesses throughout Friday, however no suspect has been named.
A source close to LaKevia alleges witnesses at the scene were overheard using gang slurs prior to the shooting.
LeKevia is mother to a 14-year-old son named Kyvion Jackson, whom she shares with Young Thug, according to CBS46. She and Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, met prior to his fame while they were both high-school aged.

The West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center states Dolph was shot throughout his body, including his right back, center back, left-back, right arm, left arm, left chest, and left abdomen. In addition, in his right chin, right neck, right wrist, and right shoulder. At the time of the shooting, which took place at Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies on Airways Blvd. near Ketchum Rd. there was no information about the amount of time the ‘Get Paid’ rapper was shot.
The news of Dolph’s shooting quickly had his name trending on Twitter. Many found the news unsettling. Bay Area Hip Hop staple Stephen “Zumbi” Gaines of Zion I unexpectedly passed away last August at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, California. His death followed a bout with COVID-19, which many assumed led to his premature passing. But days later, The San Francisco Chronicle revealed Zumbi’s death was being investigated as a homicide, leading to justifiable confusion.
According to the article, Zumbi allegedly got into a “physical altercation” as he recovered from COVID-19. Lt. Melanie Turner said Berkeley police responded to calls at 5:16 a.m. local time from patients and staff at the hospital about a patient involved in a tussle with nurses and security officers, who reportedly had him pinned down on the ground.
Turner said upon arrival “officers started handcuffing the involved person and determined that he needed immediate medical assistance.” Police began lifesaving measures until Alta Bates staff were able to assist, but “unfortunately and sadly he was pronounced deceased on the scene.”
Months later, Zumbi’s mother Carolyn Gaines is pleading for the investigation to move forward. She says there’s been no progress because police are waiting on a coroner’s report.
“I am dedicated to seeking justice for his killing,” she wrote in a statement. “My son did not die from COVID. My son did not die from a heart attack.”
She explained, “We are waiting for the Berkeley police to complete their homicide investigation. They say their delay is caused by not having a completed coroner’s report. I beg the officials to complete their official duties.”
Carolyn Gaines wants the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and Allied Universal to be held responsible for her son’s death. She hopes the investigation will reveal how Zumbi truly died.
“I pray that as soon as the Alameda County District Attorney reviews the evidence that they will prosecute Alta Bates, Allied Universal and their employees for killing my beautiful son,” she wrote. “We ask for your consideration and understanding as this process moves forward.”
She added, “There will be a time for thoughtful, peaceful and considered action from the community. For now, we seek your respect, support and understanding as we grieve and seek answers.”
